Big Apple v JCo v Krispy Kreme

Since I can’t spend that much on food now, I guess I will be talking about food now in this blog, to overcome the frustration of no eating out. Hehehehehe.

Ok, what is with Malaysians crazy over donuts? Some people will que up for 30 minutes just to buy donuts? I’ve join the Q at JCo only once, nak teman kak lin punya pasal. This was about 3 weeks ago, and it took us 20 minutes. Prior to that I get people to que up/buy for me (see…. I told you I ni memang mengada, hehehe). In KL, I think JCo is more famous than Big Apple. The que is still long at 830pm. Last night I went to The Curve, the Big Apple outlet has no one there. I took my own sweet time to select which donut I wanted, not for myself ok? It was for our meeting this morning, which I only ate 1 piece, :)

Taste wise, of course Krispy Kreme is the best. But unfortunately, it is not sold in Malaysia. But you can get it in Jakarta. Between JCo & Big Apple, I prefer JCo. Big Apple kurang umph!. Price wise is more or less the same. 1 dozen at Jco will cost you about RM16.50 while Big Apple is selling at RM17.00. And of course they do sell coffee, ice chocolates, etc which most of us are tempted to buy. Macam mana nak kurus ni????

But as my Kaklong Shila said : Donuts are like coffee, chocolates & men, the more you resist them, the more they are everywhere! :)

Note to Wawa : Na kirim Jco? Kalau sempat I tapau, but by that time dah tak sedap dah?

Aida Do Eat At Warung

Hehehehe, hari ni masuk opis dapat few emails from friends with regards the condition of me being poor this month. Hehehehe, nak tergelak aja. Ada yang bagi simpati, ada yang membebel suruh aku stop jadi shopaholic, ada yang suruh aku cut my eating out.

Okay, okay. Please take note that I don’t eat nasi goreng RM8.00 every day. Hehehehe. I eat that if I go to hillside, or tapau on my malas day to cook (tapau kat hillside boleh call and order, by the time sampai, ambik & bayar, no need to wait), or when I eat out or with my clients which I can claim. My daily meal usually will cost about RM8 – RM12 daily inclusive breakfast, lunch, dinner and goreng pisang for tea. Makan nasi goreng RM8.00 daily kopak lah aku. Now I only limit RM10 for daily meals. Kalau lebih, next day tak boleh makan! :p

Today my boss dah prohibit goreng pisang for tea. We can only have it once a week. The daily morning tea & afternoon coffee pun kena stop. This is for healthy diet and also for saving. Maybe tak banyak, but we have to start somewhere. :)

Tapi weekend ada problem. Kat office boleh bawak bekal, which if I do, I can save a lot, but hari-hari makan roti lah. Bila dah keluar, makan luar mesti mahal. Dah lah tak reti nak makan kat warung. Tapi makan kat warung pun now dah expensive. I don’t eat at warung unless I have too. But usually, I will try my best not too, tapi kalau kirim kat my colleagues, itu boleh lah. Hehehehe. Like last week, a collegue of mine buat statement best aje : “Kak Aida tu mana reti duduk makan kat warung macam kita, kalau tapau tu okay lah, janji dia tak makan kat warung” Tapi kadang2 tu pegi jugak kat Makcik tepi Jukebox kat Mydin and tapau nasi kat situ, nasi dia sedap. Usually Eddy yang pegi tapau, or my other collegues, but with my approval of which warung. Malas nak berpanas-panas kat luar. (Eleh Aida, mengada ja perangai!). Tapi kalau pegi Central Market punya food court tu boleh lagi lah. Lunch kat situ pun dalam RM5.00 dapat, so not bad. Yesterday keluar pun I had lunch at warung somewhere in Subang. The meal for 2 person cost RM11.00, ada ayam, ikan, sotong, sayur2 kampung & ulam. Taste ok, the area pun ok, tak kotor. Aku warung yang asal siap ni yang tak boleh tahan. With the bau and Cik Ti. Ish-ish-ish.

So jangan lah ingat Aida makan nasi goreng RM8.00 korang ingat aku tuan puteri, muka & body pun jauh sekali nak bau-bau bacang dengan kerabat. Tapi, biasalah kan, mengada tu mesti lah, if not, bukan aida yurani lah jawab nya (My brothers & sister & sisters in-law pun sure terangguk-angguk baca statement ni)

Ini baru hidup sorang, so, memang la aku makan lavish sket nak compare korang yang beranak-pinak tu. But I am trying to suit myself with the new budget and the upcoming price hike.

To Bapak Aina : Aida tak akan sesekali rasa bersalah kalau nak makan. Tapi kalau makan tak habis and membuang makanan, itu rasa amat bersalah sekali. Tempat lain rakyat kebulur, kita nak buang2 makanan pulak, itu tak sanggup!

To Madam S : Kalau dah triton yang menjalar depan rumah saya pepagi weekend, meaning I have saved petrol & food & whatever other expenses for the day. Hehehehe. And whatever thing at your tingkap, next time you pergi outstation, sila bawak sekali, hehehehe.

From Butter Cake to Trifle

I’ve been staying home past few days due to sickness and also the off days. So I decided to cook, utilise the backyard kitchen and my oven. (It was meant for cooking pun, not just to fill up the back area or as house decoration. Hehehehe). So I godek all my recipes and found butter cake. Took out the mixer and checked that I do have all the ingredients. With excitement, I started baking.

As the oven went “TING!” I excitedly took out the baked cake from the oven. Looked very brown and yummy. I waited for a while for it to cool down. Dah berangan nak buat cream for the cake, macam butter icing. Start punggah balik buku recipe. Listed things to buy. Balik dari giant, I saw the cake mendap pulak. Whua……. I cut the cake and saw the inside part was not fully cooked. Aiyak!!!!!

Being me, I wanted to cry, :(

But then changed my mind. I can’t be crying over butter cake tak jadi, not worth it! So I cut the cake, took whatever yang elok, threw the rest into tong sampah. Took out custard, the mixed fruits, strawberries, and the manggo jelly. Cook the custard and dump everything in a bowl. Kasi sejuk, jadi lah yummy custard. My friends did not notice the butter cake half masak, semua cakap : “Da, kau masak trifle ni yummy lah!!!”

Hehehehehe.

I will try again the butter cake some other time.
