It has been a week since the celebration of earth hour through out the world. The celebration in Malaysia went well with many major corporations and the locals participated. My grandmother was really anxious few weeks before Earth Hour. She was worried that the electricity would be cut-off during that one hour. This is after seeing so many adverts and reminders on television daily. But after we explained to her that it was mainly a campaign asking people to participate and it would be her choice to follow or not, then only, she was a bit relaxed about it.
What did I do on Earth Hour?
I went to Bukit Lanjan/Bukit Ampang. Ada orang baru sampai dari kampung sibuk nak tengok KLCC tutup lampu. We arrived there around 8.15pm and saw that place was packed with so many people and cars. Many had came earlier to get spot with the best view. Cars were lined-up at each side of the road, hence we had no choice to park quite far. We got a parking space, at the downhill. We had to walkup back. Got a spot and waited for 8.30pm. And sudenly the scenery went dark with one by one building swithced off their lights. That includes KLCC, KL Tower, Maybank HQ and all buildings nearby. We stayed for about 2 minutes and walked back to the car as the road was already packed with vehicles. As many people parked on both sides, the road had became one lane.
Arrived home soon after that and did not switched on the lights until next morning.
To me, Earth Hour is something we have to reflect in our daily lives. No point switching off the lights for one hour anually. Yeah, it creates awareness, but it should be a continuous campaign. I hope more campaigns will be conducted in near future for the benefit of the human race. I am recycle a lot of things at home (and office too) now and send it to recylce centre once a month.
Note : Need to tell mama to stop using aircond at night at home!
